Student Illness

The intention of this policy is to provide a healthy and safe environment for our students. Some illnesses and situations require a child to be absent from class to prevent the spread of infection to other children and to allow the child time to rest, recover and be treated for the illness. In order to help keep our children healthy, FineLine Theatre Arts requires adherence to the guidelines of this policy.

Children will not be allowed to attend classes or school related activities if they have anything contagious such as, but not limited to the following:

FEVER: May return when fever free (under 100 degrees) for 24 hours, without medication

DIARRHEA / VOMITING: May return when symptom free for 24 hours

STREP THROAT: May return after 24 hours of antibiotic treatment and no fever for 24 hours

CONJUNCTIVITIS (pink eye): May return 24 hours after treatment begins and eyes are free of discharge

HEAD LICE: May return after treatment and removal of all live lice and nits from hair

COMMUNICABLE DISEASES (such as, but not limited to – influenza, common cold, chickenpox, COVID-19, etc.): May return when symptom free and have been cleared by their medical provider with a note stating they may return to their FineLine class.

If a student arrives at the studio with symptoms, or during class begins to show symptoms indicative of a condition listed above, a parent/guardian will be contacted and asked to pick the child up as soon as possible. If a student has MISSED school for the day due to illness, they must stay home from FineLine, too.

The parent/guardian needs to maintain direct contact with FineLine if the child is diagnosed with any communicable disease so the school can take appropriate steps to protect the entire student population.

Absense & Tardiness

Please call the school at 860.210.1444 or email info@finelinetheatrearts.com when you will be absent from, or will be arriving late to class. If you miss any classes, you may schedule a time to make them up in comparable classes. Four or more absences to class or rehearsal can result in the reduction of participation in performances.

Please note that students arriving 10 or more minutes late to a dance or acrobatics class may be asked to observe class. This is for their protection against injury.

If the student or parent knows that they will be more than 20 minutes late to a class, please email your teacher for awareness and work with us to schedule a time for the student to participate in a makeup class.

Student Conduct

FineLine values professionalism and healthy standards of work ethic. When you register for class it is understood that your student intends to take class to the best of their ability. Students must come to class prepared; hair done, clothing and shoes on at the start of class time.

Students are expected to conduct themselves with appropriate boundaries, before, after and during classes. They must respect their teachers and their fellow students. We have zero tolerance for any kind of bullying at our studio. Additionally, students must respect the building including cleaning up after themselves in the bathroom and general respect for the property.

Students will only be allowed to participate in classes in which they are registered, unless approved by a teacher as a make-up class. Students are not allowed in a studio unless there is a faculty member present.

Disciplinary Procedures

FineLine is proud to be enriched by the diversity of its members. FineLine recognizes and respects individual differences including, but not limited to: culture, race, ethnic origin, religion, gender, and sexual orientation. To provide an environment of respect and sensitivity, it is important that all students recognize that behavior, whether verbal, written or physical, which disregards or demeans the self-esteem of others, is unacceptable. Such behaviors are unacceptable regardless of how they are communicated. Any individuals engaging in such behaviors will be subject to disciplinary action.

To provide an environment of respect and sensitivity, it is important that all students recognize their behavior, whether verbal, written, or physical impacts others around them.

A meeting with our studio owners and/or faculty will be called with all parents and students involved if an incident occurs and is brought to our attention. The students, and or parents, of both parties will be given the opportunity to voice their concerns, feelings, and point of view.

Disciplinary action may include removal from classes temporarily or permanently.

Performance Standards

FineLine casts performances based on age, level and participation. We believe every student deserves a chance to share the stage and are considerate of all students when we distribute parts in performances.

Students should adhere to all our policies when performing at alternate venues. We expect all our students to have a level of professionalism when participating in class and performances.

Please note that students are required to attend Technical and Dress Rehearsals when performing in any of our shows.

Winter Weather Policy

We generally follow the closing schedule of the New Milford School District for weather closings. If there is an early dismissal or cancellation of after-school activities, our afternoon and evening classes are cancelled.

If the studio is closed, we will send out an email to registered families and post the closing on our social media accounts.

While we typically follow New Milford School District for weather-related class cancellations, the decision to cancel or hold classes is ultimately at our discretion. In the event of bad weather, keep a close eye on your email, as well as our Facebook and Instagram pages, for a decision by 12pm. Do not automatically assume the studio is closed.

Classes will not be rescheduled and refunds cannot be offered. Classes cancelled because of weather may be made up in a similar class with the permission of the teacher. If an extraordinary amount of snow days occur, we will make every effort to add extra days.
